US urges its citizens to leave Iran immediately, via Armenia or Turkey

The US State Department has urged American citizens to leave Iran immediately, advising them to travel by land via Armenia or Turkey. This is stated in an urgent statement posted on the State Department’s website.

The warning states that having a US passport may be grounds for detention by Iranian authorities.

Also, US nationals in Iran are advised to expect further internet disruptions and develop alternative means of communication.

And, if safe to do so, they should consider traveling by land from Iran to Armenia or Turkey, the US State Department statement added.
