President Vladimir Putin has said that he does not recall a conversation with U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump in which the latter threatened to strike Moscow, Kommersant reported.
During a press conference following the BRICS summit in Kazan, the Russian president was asked whether it was possible to threaten Russia and how he felt about such threats.
“It makes no sense to threaten Russia because it only cheers us up. But I don’t recall such a conversation with Mr. Trump,” Putin said.
He also urged “not to take seriously” such statements, as the U.S. is now in the “acute phase of the electoral struggle.”
On October 21, U.S. Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said that he threatened Vladimir Putin to strike in the center of Moscow if Russia “pursues Ukraine.” It is not known when exactly this conversation took place, other details Trump did not provide.
At the press conference, Putin also called Donald Trump’s desire to end the conflict in Ukraine sincere. Russia welcomes statements of this kind, no matter who they come from, he added.
