Speaker of the Republic of Armenia National Assembly (RA NA), Alen Simonyan, met with the President of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe Parliamentary Assembly (OSCE PA), Pia Kauma, in Dublin on Thursday, the NA informs Armenian News-NEWS.am.
The RA NA President expressed conviction that the newly elected OSCE PA President will encourage the dialogue and steps towards cooperation between all the member states. Alen Simonyan welcomed the decision to hold the Autumn Session of the OSCE PA in Yerevan, underscoring that the Government of Armenia and the National Assembly are preparing to host all the colleagues in Armenia in November. Touching upon the details of the Azerbaijani offensive against the Armenians of Nagorno-Karabakh and its consequences, Alen Simonyan presented the problems of the forcibly displaced and the complexity of the situation. At his colleague’s request, he also referred to the action plan by which Armenia started accepting our compatriots displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh.
The parties discussed the regular aggression by Azerbaijan against the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Armenia, considering the undisguised ambitions of official Baku unacceptable. The RA NA President noted that in Armenia they expect that the OSCE PA, as a defender of democratic values and a structure in favor of resolving conflicts peacefully, will express its position on the actions against our country. The RA NA President mentioned that the democratic reforms implemented in Armenia are irreversible, and democracy is the primary agenda of our country. The parties also discussed the situation in the region, highlighting the conflicts and their direct impact on Armenia.
The OSCE PA President noted that they follow the developments on a daily basis, inquiring about Azerbaijani threats against the territorial integrity of Armenia. She noted that a special meeting of the OSCE PA is planned in the near future, where the Heads of the delegations of Armenia, Georgia and Azerbaijan are expected to attend: The prospects of establishing peace in the region will be discussed.
