Lebanon’s President: Israeli Attacks on Soldiers Undermine Calls for the Army to Counter Hezbollah

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun expressed condolences over the deaths of soldiers today in Israeli airstrikes.

“President Aoun stressed that attacks on a military institution that plays a unifying national role in maintaining stability and preserving sovereignty clearly contradict calls by Lebanon and the international community to strengthen the army to extend state authority across all Lebanese territory and restrict weapons to legitimate armed forces,” Aoun’s statement on X read.
