German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said on Sunday he was following the unrest in France “with concern,” a day after President Emmanuel Macron postponed a state visit to Germany due to the surge in violence sparked by the murder of a 17-year-old teenager.
“France is a friendly neighboring country, and Paris and Berlin are working together to ensure that the European Union, which is so important to our common future, works well.
That’s why we certainly look at [the riots] with concern and I really hope and I’m certainly convinced that the French President will find ways to ensure that this situation improves quickly,” Scholz told ARD broadcaster.
