In Ankara, they say that in early 2026 the border between Turkey and Armenia will open for citizens. Garo Paylan, an Armenian former member of the Turkish parliament, on Tuesday announced this during the international Orbeli Forum being held in Yerevan, the capital of Armenia

“How can peace be achieved? Through pressure? They have tried for 120 years. It hasn’t worked. People on both sides of the border do not know each other and exchange rhetoric of hatred,” Paylan said.

He noted that now Armenia and Azerbaijan communicate with each other directly, without intermediaries, and Armenian and Turkish officials are speaking directly with each other.

“This is a dream that has come true. Armenia won the [first Nagorno-Karabakh] war in the 1990s, but did not win peace. In the second Karabakh war, Azerbaijan won, but will Azerbaijani leaders have enough wisdom so that they can also win in peacebuilding? Armenia is ready for peace, Turkey is also ready for normalization,” added the Armenian former member of the Turkish parliament.
