England host Switzerland in an international friendly this weekend as countries continue their preparation for the Qatar World Cup later this year.
Time is running out for players to prove to Gareth Southgate they deserve to be in his squad for the tournament, but Tyrick Mitchell, Marc Guehi and Kyle Walker-Peters will have the chance to impress after receiving their maiden call-ups to the senior squad.
Tammy Abraham’s prolific form with Roma this season had seemingly established him as England’s second-choice striker behind Harry Kane, however, he is one of a handful of notable injury absentees. Kyle Walker, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Reece James and Aaron Ramsdale also miss out.
England last played Switzerland in the summer of 2019 when Southgate’s side triumphed on penalties in the Nations League third-place playoff.

Prediction
Switzerland are a well-organised side and may prove difficult to break down, especially with the context of the match being a friendly removing a little of its impetus. Eventually, England’s superior quality should prevail in a close game. England 1-0 Switzerland.
