Azerbaijanis demolish monument to Marshal Baghramyan in Stepanakert

While Azerbaijani troops were marching in a parade on Red Square in Moscow, and the Armenian Prime Minister and Russian President were watching the parade from the rostrum, a monument to Marshal Baghramyan was torn down in Stepanakert. To the ground, leaving no trace. Before that, they desecrated the monument by breaking its nose and destroying inscriptions in Armenian. Sergei Shahverdyan, chairman of the NGO “Artsakh Culture and Tourism Development Agency” wrote about it on his Facebook page.

 “This was the last sculptural monument left in Stepanakert until May 9, 2025, the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. While the Russian ambassador to Armenia is furious and indignant, mentioning Bagramyan’s name in a fit of righteous anger, and Maria Zakharova is trying to justify Aliyev’s absence from the Victory Parade, the Azerbaijani occupation administration is demolishing a monument to one of the outstanding military figures of the Soviet era. We are waiting for an angry open letter from the Russian ambassador to Azerbaijan,” his post reads.
