Azerbaijan has again demanded to change the constitution of Armenia.
“We have many goals set ahead. Eliminating threats to the sovereignty of our country is the main priority,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Jeyhun Bayramov in his statement to journalists, APA reports.
“In January 2021, [Azerbaijani] President Ilham Aliyev made a public speech and proposed a peace agenda to Armenia. The number of open questions on the negotiation of the peace treaty has decreased significantly. Unfortunately, the territorial claim to Azerbaijan remains in the constitution of Armenia. This factor must be eliminated in order to fully achieve peace,” Bayramov said.
Territorial ambitions towards Armenia are contained in the constitution of Azerbaijan because the Republic of Azerbaijan is the successor of the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan, not of the Azerbaijan SSR.
Earlier, the Armenian authorities announced that the internal legislation of the two countries should not be reflected in the supposed peace agreement between them. But demands to change the constitution of Armenia have started to be made in Azerbaijan.
