Turkey’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ahmet Yıldız, called on Israel to stop its “illegal actions” in the occupied territory of Palestine, Al Jazeera reports.

Yıldız said that “Israel’s continuing attacks on the Palestinian people, their rights, their land, their security and their dignity” make addressing the root causes of this problem an urgent necessity.

Yıldız, in his capacity as chair of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), presented the OIC group’s statement at an Arria-formula meeting on “The West Bank and East Jerusalem” at the UN Security Council on Friday.

“In the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, we strongly condemn Israel’s illegal actions, its settlement expansion, its annexation plans, its settler terrorism, and its violations against the holy sites of Islam and Christianity, especially the Al-Aqsa Mosque,” he said, while also calling for an end to Israel’s ceasefire violations in Gaza.

“We condemn all colonization measures, including the seizure and demolition of Palestinian homes and the displacement of Palestinian families. Such illegal actions must stop,” the Turkish diplomat added.
