The transfer window is now open again following the start of this summer’s Club World Cup with clubs able to accelerate deals ahead of the new season.
Florian Wirtz is now officially a Liverpool player after agreeing a record £116.5m deal for the German superstar and completing the medical on Friday, while Reds defender Jarell Quansah is set to go the other way in a £35m deal to join Bayern Leverkusen. Liverpool, who have already brought in Jeremie Frimpong, now turn attention to Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez, who looks set to complete his deal next week, while they retain interest in Alexander Isak and Marc Guehi.
Arsenal have agreed to pay above the release fee for Spanish midfielder Martin Zubimendi, while Mikel Arteta has made RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko a priority although talks have stalled somewhat according to Sesko’s agent. Also, the Gunners have submitted an initial offer for another forward option – Sporting’s Viktor Gyokeres – and the Swede has reportedly told friends and family he’ll be moving to Arsenal this summer.
Manchester United, who have secured Matheus Cunha from Wolves for £62.5m, are negotiating with Brentford about Bryan Mbeumo but rumours are flying that Mbeumo has done a shock U-turn and would now prefer a move to Tottenham Hotspur with Thomas Frank taking charges in north London – while Spurs also want Mbeumo’s Bees teammate Yoane Wissa.

They claim the Gunners are ‘preparing to make another offer’ for the Sweden international.
Their first offer was said to only be verbal, and worth €55m plus €10m in bonuses.
It was deemed lower than Sporting’s valuation for the striker.

Damian Duff in talks for Brentford assistant roleBrentford are in discussions to bring Damian Duff in as an assistant to Keith Andrews.
Andrews, who had been part of Thomas Frank’s coaching staff since last year is well-regarded within the club and is one of the favourites to take over as manager.
Brentford promoted from within last time they required a new head coach, with Frank having been Dean Smith’s assistant.
There is still some way to go in talks with Duff coming on as his assistant but both negotiations are progressing.

Antony fee becomes clearManchester United reportedly want to receive around €35m if they are to sell forward Antony this summer. That is according to Diario de Sevilla, who suggest Real Betis want to bring the Brazilian back after an impressive loan spell.
However, Betis cannot afford United’s asking price and suggested a co-ownership deal which would involve them paying an initial €20m and buy more later down the line.
That idea was swiftly rejected by the Red Devils, who want the full amount.

The key attribute that explains why Liverpool signed Florian Wirtz – and why he’ll succeedThere was a time when Liverpool looked to a German prodigy at Bayer Leverkusen as they sought to add another dimension to their attack but didn’t get him.
That time was 2017, the Bundesliga wunderkind was Julian Brandt and the reason was that Jurgen Klopp, initially an advocate of his compatriot, was persuaded to switch his attentions to Mohamed Salah by Michael Edwards and the recruitment team assembled by Fenway Sports Group.
