The campaign season for the elections of the Yerevan Council of Elders starts Wednesday, and it will end on September 15.

By force of law, employees and officials of Armenia’s state and local government agencies who are candidates—except for those holding political, administrative and discretionary positions—are relieved of their official duties, from August 23 to September 17.

Thirteen political parties and one alliance of political parties will be running in the elections.

The ruling Civil Contract Party has nominated Tigran Avinyan, former Deputy Prime Minister of Armenia as a candidate for the Mayor of Yerevan. Avinyan now holds the position of deputy mayor and has actually assumed the powers of the mayor.

The previous elections of the Yerevan Council of Elders were held on September 23, 2018.
