Follow all the action as Wimbledon continues with Rafael Nadal, Iga Swiatek and Serena Williams all in action on day two.<\/p>\n
Today marks the return of Nadal, back for the first time since 2019 and fresh from opening up a lead in the race to finish with the most men\u2019s grand slam titles with 22. That\u2019s compared to defending champion Novak Djokovic, who has 20 titles, with the six-time champion up and running after swiftly moving into the second round with a hard-fought four-set win over Soonwoo Kwon. The other finalist from SW19 last year, Matteo Berrettini, is back and in fine form after defending his Queen\u2019s title and the Italian will be hoping to go one further this year, opening up against Cristian Garin on Court One.<\/p>\n
The favourite in the women\u2019s singles is World No 1 Iga Swiatek and she opens up her championships on Centre Court against Jana Fett, taking the traditional slot on the first Tuesday of play after defending women\u2019s champion Ash Barty\u2019s sudden retirement. There is more Wimbledon royalty in action on day two with Williams making her long-awaited return. The seven-time Wimbledon champion is back in singles action after cruelly being forced to retire from her first round match at SW19 last year and the 40-year-old, third up on Centre Court, looks to ignite her comeback from a hamstring injury when she takes on Harmony Tan.<\/p>\n
Elsewhere there is intriguing matches involving Coco Gauff and Elena-Gabriela Ruse on Court Two, while the charismatic Nick Kyrgios is hoping to cement his status as a dark horse this year with a first-round encounter against Paul Jubb on Court Three. Matteo Berrettini, runner-up at SW19 last year and one of the favourites for the title, has had to withdraw from the Championships after testing positive for Covid-19.<\/p>\n
In a post on Instagram he wrote: \u201cI am heartbroken to announce that I need to withdraw from Wimbledon due to a positive COVID-19 test result. <\/p>\n
\u201cI have had flu symptoms and been isolating the last few days. Despite symptoms not being severe, I decided it was important to take another test this morning to protect the health and safety of my fellow competitors and everyone else involved in the tournament.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have no words to describe the extreme disappointed I feel. The dream is over for this year, but I will be back stronger. Thank you for the support.\u201d<\/p>\n

He says \u2018we can leave it a few minutes before we start\u2019. <\/p>\n
By the looks of things though, they\u2019re are about to warm up. <\/p>\n

1656410625Halep returns to WimbledonThe 2019 Ladies Singles champion, Simona Halep, makes her long awaited return to Wimbledon against last year\u2019s quarter-finalist Karolina Muchova. <\/p>\n
This is Halep\u2019s first return to SW19 since winning the 2019 title, having seen the 2020 edition cancelled due to Covid-19 and then missing last year through injury.<\/p>\n
It is Wimbledon tradition for the defending women\u2019s champion to open Centre Court action on the first Tuesday, something Halep was not able to do due to her absence last year.<\/p>\n
But with 2021 champion Ash Barty now retired there was an opening, but tournament officials instead gave the slot to world number one Iga Swiatek.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ve said this too much to say. But I can say that I feel sad that I missed it because I was injured, so I couldn\u2019t really take the chance,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt would have been very nice to open the tournament. But my chance is gone. So probably in this life I can have another chance, so I will look forward to that.<\/p>\n

1656410265Andy Murray uses underarm serve in first-round win at WimbledonAndy Murray threw in an underarm serve as he overcame a stiff examination of his form and fitness to get his Wimbledon campaign up and running.<\/p>\n
The former world number one faced a race against time to recover from an abdominal strain he suffered a fortnight ago in time to play at SW19.<\/p>\n
The injury did not seem to be an issue but the match sharpness probably was after Murray was broken twice on his way to dropping the first set against unseeded Australian James Duckworth.<\/p>\n

1656409905Murray through to second roundAndy Murray made a brilliant return to Centre Court last night with a comeback victory over James Duckworth after losing the first set and the 35-year-old Scot relished the chance to play in front of a packed crowd at Wimbledon again. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt is amazing to be back out here again with a full crowd,\u201d said the two-time Wimbledon champion. \u201cI\u2019m getting on a bit now so I don\u2019t know how many opportunities I will get here.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m pleased I managed to get through and hopefully I will get another match here on Centre in a couple of days.\u201d<\/p>\n
Murray will now face big serving John Isner in the next round. Isner was famously part of tennis\u2019 longest ever match when he took Nicholas Mahut to five sets at Wimbledon back in 2010 before eventually winning the final set 70-68 after 11 hours 5 minutes playtime over three days. <\/p>\n
\u201cI played well against John in the past. I don\u2019t think I\u2019ve ever played him on grass before, so there will be different challenges,\u201d Murray said. \u201cHe\u2019s played well here before. He was very close to making the final a few years ago.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019ll need to play really well and certainly return a bit better than I did tonight if I want to get through that.\u201d<\/p>\n
