Donald Trump rolled out a new chatbot aimed at helping Americans interact with federal agencies and streamlining the processes associated with them on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
The president spoke Tuesday morning at an event hosted by Tony Robbins as the service \u2014 America.gov \u2014 launched to the public.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s going to save you tremendous time,\u201d the president promised.<\/p>\n
The tool can be used to direct Americans to services across the federal government in a manner similar to other existing AI chatbots, like the Gemini service integrated into Google\u2019s search function. In a video presentation from Robbins and chief design officer Joe Gebbia, the designers teased greater functionalities in the future that did not appear to be available yet, like passport renewal and updating\/obtaining other official documents through a one-click system.<\/p>\n
\u201cAmerica plans to let you renew a passport right here in 2027. See what’s coming,\u201d the chatbot tells users today, with a link to a promotional video showing those features.<\/p>\n
\u201cInstead of forcing citizens to search through the endless maze of tens of thousands of terrible government websites and rules…you\u2019ll now have one front door for every single question. Everything will be answered easily and quickly,\u201d Trump promised, vowing that the site would save average Americans \u201chundreds\u201d of hours per year filling out government paperwork, accessing benefits and searching for information.<\/p>\n

Not complicated,\u201d Trump said. The technology is reportedly built using Gemini and Grok code.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhether you\u2019re a Scout leader who wants to reserve a campsite at a national park, a senior citizen trying to choose a Medicare plan, or an American veteran trying to get the benefits that you\u2019ve earned, you so justly deserve, America.gov will be there to help,\u201d said the president.<\/p>\n
The announcement comes as Trump met Monday evening with Dario Amodei, the CEO of Anthropic who has warned that his industry\u2019s growth needs government supervision and guardrails to avoid courting disaster. The president is due to meet with Amodei and other officials from Anthropic again on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Americans\u2019 views on artificial intelligence are also changing at a rapid pace, with opposition to the growth of data center projects becoming a bipartisan issue in communitites around the country. Both Democratic and Republican governors and other candidates have signaled support for pauses, bans or temporary moratoriums of various kinds as the expansion of data centers as well as the overall role of AI in society continues at a fever pitch.<\/p>\n
A CNN\/SRSS poll conducted this month laid out Americans\u2019 fears in stark view. As many as 9 in 10 Americans now fear that aritificial intelligence could surpass human control and intelligence, and view the technology with skepticism and disdain by similarly wide margins. Nearly half of those surveyed thought that AI would likely negatively impact their own personal economic outcomes in the future. Less than 20 percent said the opposite.<\/p>\n

At the event on Tuesday, the president repeated his quip that he wants to change the name of artificial intelligence to \u201csuper intelligence\u201d, before joking that the was going to begin referring to the \u201cfake news\u201d media as the \u201cartificial news\u201d.<\/p>\n
The rollout and transfer of responsibilities from federal workers and agency websites to an AI agent raises both possibilities for streamlining government access as well as serious concerns about privacy, security, and economic ripple effects. Both Grok and Google\u2019s Gemini service, which the America.gov service are built on, carry disclaimers that information provided by AI agents may be incomplete, unreliable, or flat-out untrue. While the rollout of America.gov doesn\u2019t yet mean that any individual agencies will undergo major changes, its launch follows the second Trump administration\u2019s efforts to radically transform many federal agencies under both the cost-cutting and efficiency pledges of Elon Musk\u2019s shuttered DOGE initiative as well as the efforts of Russell Vought at the Office of Management and Budget to further diminish government spending. <\/p>\n
Trump administration officials could seek to further offload the work of federal agencies to the America.gov system in the future as many figures within the administration continue to push for agencies to be slimmed down and federal positions to be eliminated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
