Both sides of the Strait of Hormuz are fully under the control of the Iranian Armed Forces, and no ship can enter this strategically important region without Tehran’s permission, Deputy Chief of Iran’s Army for Coordination, Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari, said, Mehr News Agency reports.<\/p>\n
Speaking on Iranian state television on Friday, Sayyari recalled the crew of the Iranian destroyer Dena, which he claimed was killed in a US attack off the coast of Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n
According to the commander, the ship was participating in a peacekeeping and training mission, as well as friendly exercises, and was not carrying any combat weapons.<\/p>\n
Sayyari said the Iranian sailors were the victims of an unjust attack and that Iran intends to avenge their deaths. Also, he criticized international and human rights organizations for their lack of response to the incident.<\/p>\n
The Iranian admiral claimed that 104 people died in the incident, and the bodies of 20 more soldiers still remain at sea.<\/p>\n
He said that the destroyer Dena was attacked by a US Navy torpedo on March 4 off the coast of Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n
Speaking about Iran’s military potential, Sayyari said the extensive use of unmanned aerial vehicles by the Iranian army and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. According to him, Iranian drones can be brought to readiness in the shortest possible time even in difficult conditions, and their production and capabilities continue to develop rapidly.<\/p>\n
Also, the commander announced that the western part of the Strait of Hormuz, the strait itself, and the Persian Gulf are under the control of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy. According to him, the eastern part of the strait and the northern part of the Indian Ocean are controlled by the Iranian Army Navy.<\/p>\n
