Turkey\u2019s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ahmet Y\u0131ld\u0131z, called on Israel to stop its \u201cillegal actions\u201d in the occupied territory of Palestine, Al Jazeera reports.<\/p>\n
Y\u0131ld\u0131z said that \u201cIsrael\u2019s continuing attacks on the Palestinian people, their rights, their land, their security and their dignity\u201d make addressing the root causes of this problem an urgent necessity.<\/p>\n
Y\u0131ld\u0131z, in his capacity as chair of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), presented the OIC group\u2019s statement at an Arria-formula meeting on \u201cThe West Bank and East Jerusalem\u201d at the UN Security Council on Friday.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, we strongly condemn Israel\u2019s illegal actions, its settlement expansion, its annexation plans, its settler terrorism, and its violations against the holy sites of Islam and Christianity, especially the Al-Aqsa Mosque,\u201d he said, while also calling for an end to Israel\u2019s ceasefire violations in Gaza.<\/p>\n
