A Florida woman fought off a five-foot alligator with her bare hands after it attacked her four-month-old puppy. <\/p>\n
Danie Wright was walking her pup, Dax, behind her Land O\u2019 Lakes home last week when the gator tried to snatch up her furry friend. <\/p>\n
\u201cI heard a squeal, and I got pulled,\u201d she told local news outlet WTSP.<\/p>\n
She said the gator dragged Dax by his collar, \u201cand I wasn’t gonna let go.\u201d<\/p>\n

When her puppy was pulled into a nearby creek, Wright\u2019s instincts kicked in.<\/p>\n
\u201cI just punched him, punched and punched,\u201d she said. \u201cI punched him in the eye enough that he kind of let go, he unclamped a little, and I pulled off.\u201d<\/p>\n
Wright was injured during the fight. The gator\u2019s teeth \u201cdragged down my arm,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust be careful with your dogs, you know these alligators are no joke,\u201d Wright said, advising other dog owners to \u201cleave your phone at home\u201d to limit distractions on walks. <\/p>\n

The Independent has reached out to the commission for further updates on the gator.<\/p>\n
The commission has previously warned to keep pets on a leash and a \u201csafe distance\u201d away from water, as your furry friends can \u201cresemble alligators\u2019 natural prey.\u201d<\/p>\n
