Simu Liu is officially engaged to Allison Hsu. <\/p>\n
The Kim\u2019s Convenience actor shared the news to his Instagram followers on Sunday, posting a photo with his now-fianc\u00e9e, who showed off a diamond ring on her finger.<\/p>\n
\u201cFrom weekends in Paris, day trips to Palm Springs, long nights on set, afternoons vegging on the couch and everything in between, I choose you forever and always,\u201d the caption read. <\/p>\n
Liu and the marketing actor were first romantically linked back in November 2022 when they both attended the Violent Night premiere in Los Angeles.<\/p>\n
One year later, in 2023, the Barbie actor opened up in an interview with People about what he learned from Hsu. <\/p>\n
\u201cI think she really just has taught me the value in so many things. She’s absolutely changed my life, so I’m very, very grateful to have her,\u201d he said about her at the time. \u201cShe’s really taught me that you have to fight for the time with the people that you love, she’s really taught me that you need to be intentional and tend to each and every one of the relationships that matter to you.\u201d<\/p>\n
Liu\u2019s engagement comes a few months after he starred as a guest Dragon on Canada\u2019s Dragons\u2019 Den, where he sent the internet into a frenzy for accusing a boba tea brand of cultural appropriation. <\/p>\n

Bubble tea typically combines flavorful milk or regular tea with chewy tapioca balls for an added layer of sweetness. In their pitch, Fiset and Frenette defined bubble tea as \u201cthat trendy sugary drink that you queue up for and you\u2019re never quite sure about its content.\u201d<\/p>\n
Liu interjected to say: \u201cHang on, hang on. I\u2019m quite sure about its content, but continue.\u201d<\/p>\n
The two entrepreneurs declared \u201cthose days\u201d of bubble tea were \u201cover\u201d as Bobba has now \u201cdisturbed\u201d the market and \u201ctransformed this beloved beverage into a convenient and healthier ready-to-drink experience\u201d with \u201chigh-quality tea, fruit juice, and our famous popping boba.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to Britannica, bubble tea originated in T\u2019ai-nan, Taiwan, in the 1980s. However, variations of the drink have since popped up throughout East Asia with fresh flavors like matcha green tea and taro tea.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m concerned about this idea of \u2018disrupting\u2019 or \u2018disturbing\u2019 bubble tea,\u201d Liu said in response to the pitch.<\/p>\n
However, Minhas asked, \u201cWhy?\u201d cutting Liu off. \u201cThere can be new takes on things,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
\u201cSure,\u201d said Liu. \u201cBut I\u2019m looking at-\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cNot everything has to be traditional,\u201d said Minhas.<\/p>\n
