Central Election Commission: Ruling Georgian Dream will not be able to get constitutional majority in parliament <\/p>\n

The ruling Georgian Dream party will not be able to get a constitutional majority in the new parliament, according to the preliminary results of the CEC elections, NewsGeorgia reports.<\/p>\n

At the moment, the mandates are distributed as follows. (Results based on data from 72% of polling stations):<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u201cGeorgian Dream\u201d – 53%, 88 mandates;<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u201cCoalition for Change – Gvaramia, Melia, Girchi, Droa\u201d – 11.2%, 19 mandates;<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u201cUnity\u201c (\u201dNational Movement\u201d, \u2018Agmashenebeli Strategy\u2019, \u2018European Georgia\u2019) – 9.8%, 16 mandates;<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u201cStrong Georgia\u201c (\u201dLelo\u201d, \u2018For the People\u2019, \u2018Freedom Square\u2019, \u2018Citizens\u2019) – 9%, 14 mandates;<\/p>\n

\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u201cGakharia – For Georgia\u201d – 8.2%, 13 mandates.<\/p>\n

At least 113 deputies are required for a constitutional majority. \u201cGeorgian Dream was counting on just such support. The main pre-election promises of the ruling party implied changing the country’s basic law – recognizing the opposition as unconstitutional, enshrining the special status of the church, banning any actions that could be considered as LGBT propaganda, etc..\u00a0<\/p>\n

Moreover, 88 votes for the Georgian Dream will not even be enough to impeach President Salome Zurabishvili. This requires two-thirds of the mandates, i.e. 100 seats.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
