Jillian Michaels has once again spoken out about the Ozempic weight loss trend.<\/p>\n
In an interview with E! News, the fitness trainer opened up about the \u201cconcerning\u201d news regarding the increase of people announcing that they are taking the drug normally used to treat type 2 diabetes.<\/p>\n
\u201cWith anything medical, whether we\u2019re talking about a vaccine or antibiotics, there\u2019s always side effects,\u201d she explained to the outlet, listing the potential downsides. \u201cSo let\u2019s start out with the side effects that are on the f***ing website: We\u2019ve got thyroid tumours, gallbladder problems, pancreatitis, kidney issues, vision loss, stomach problems now including stomach paralysis. There\u2019s a class action lawsuit for stomach paralysis.\u201d<\/p>\n
Michaels continued mentioning that doctors are warning individuals who have turned to diabetes medications to lose weight that the drugs may result in unwanted side effects such as facial ageing also known as \u201cOzempic face.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople are always like, \u2018Oh, It\u2019s because of rapid weight loss,\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cNo, it\u2019s not.\u201d<\/p>\n
Across 11 seasons on The Biggest Loser and even more as a personal trainer, \u201cI\u2019ve taken a tremendous amount of weight off of arguably tens of thousands of people,\u201d explained the founder of The Fitness App. \u201cI\u2019ve seen a bazillion before and afters to my website. For everything I\u2019ve ever done, personally, people always looked better, they never look worse. So anecdotally there\u2019s something happening, in my opinion, that\u2019s arguably causing the breakdown of collagen.\u201d<\/p>\n
Although Michaels told E! News that she has \u201czero judgement\u201d for people who have considered trying the drug to finally see the results they\u2019ve been wanting, she does see a fallout coming as she views people adapting to Ozempic the same way they adapt to coffee.<\/p>\n
\u201cJust the way people adapt to any other drug,\u201d she said. \u201cJust the way we become insulin resistant or leptin resistant. And you plateau.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cTwo years from now, you\u2019re going to see the fallout from this, just like we did with all the other diet drugs over the years,\u201d Michaels continued. \u201cAnd the fallout will be significant. Right now everyone is like, \u2018I\u2019ve been on for six months, I look and feel great.\u2019 And then what happens when it\u2019s no longer impacting your appetite and you plateau in a year and a half? Or what happens when you experience one of these side effects? Or all of a sudden your hair starts falling out six months in or you look like complete s***?\u201d<\/p>\n
This isn\u2019t the first time the trainer has issued a warning about Ozempic. Back in February 2023, she also talked to People about her concerns. \u201cI have taken at least eight family friends\u2019 parents off of this drug. They\u2019re getting heart palpitations, they\u2019re nauseous, they feel like s***,\u201d she told the outlet at the time.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey feel so awful that it\u2019s motivated them to reverse their type 2 diabetes.\u201d<\/p>\n
Michaels also spoke about a \u201crebound effect\u201d or gaining back any lost weight once the medication is stopped.<\/p>\n
\u201cOnce they get off of the drug, it does the rebound effect,\u201d she told the publication. \u201cSo you\u2019re not gaining anything. You get off the drug in a year and go all the way back.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou\u2019ve not learned anything. You\u2019ve not built any physical strength or endurance. You haven\u2019t learned how to eat healthy.\u201d<\/p>\n
She urged people who might be considering using Ozempic to do their research since it has some \u201cpretty significant side effects\u2019\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
