Julia Roberts has opened up about the part of Notting Hill she \u201cloathed\u201d making.<\/p>\n
Roberts, most recently seen in Netflix film Leave the World Behind, starred in the 1999 romantic comedy as a Hollywood film actor who finds romance with a British bookshop owner, played by Wonka actor Hugh Grant.<\/p>\n
At the time, Roberts was a bonafide star of her own, having starred in Pretty Woman in 1990 and My Best Friend\u2019s Wedding two years before Notting Hill.<\/p>\n
In a new Interview with British Vogue, Roberts discussed the film in conversation with its creator, writer Richard Curtis.<\/p>\n
While talking about the roles she\u2019d taken over the years, Roberts explained that, while there were similarities between herself and her characters, she never felt \u201clike I\u2019m playing myself\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cHonestly, one of the hardest things I\u2019ve ever had to do was your movie, playing a movie actress. I was so uncomfortable!\u201d she told Curtis of Notting Hill.<\/p>\n
\u201cI mean, we\u2019ve talked about this so many times, but I almost didn\u2019t take the part because it just seemed \u2013 oh, it just seemed so awkward. I didn\u2019t even know how to play that person.\u201d<\/p>\n

Roberts then explained that she\u2019d particularly \u201cloathed\u201d being dressed as a movie star for the film, and that the clothes she ended up wearing for the famous \u201cI\u2019m just a girl\u201d scene were her own she\u2019d worn that day.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy driver, lovely Tommy, I sent him back to my flat that morning,\u201d she recalled. \u201cI said, \u2018Go into my bedroom and grab this, this and this out of my closet.\u2019 And it was my own flip-flops and my cute little blue velvet skirt and a T-shirt and my cardigan\u2026 I mean, it was a great scene. But who knew that that would become the line.\u201d<\/p>\n
While Notting Hill cemented Roberts as a romcom actor, the actor revealed in 2022 that the reason she hadn\u2019t returned to the genre was because she hadn\u2019t found anything \u201cgood enough\u201d.<\/p>\n

Roberts explained that \u201cpeople sometimes misconstrue the amount of time that\u2019s gone by\u201d as her \u201cnot wanting\u201d to do a romantic comedy, which wasn\u2019t the case.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf I had read something that I thought was Notting Hill-level of writing or My Best Friend\u2019s Wedding-level of madcap fun, I would do it.\u201d<\/p>\n
The exception to the trend, she said, had been 2022\u2019s Ticket to Paradise, which she starred in opposite George Clooney.<\/p>\n
