He spent the New Year’s weekend on the island of Hallig Hooge in the North Sea.<\/p>\n
But when the politician returned to the mainland by ferry on Thursday, about 100 angry farmers, dissatisfied with the reduction of a number of benefits, gathered there, reports Bild.<\/p>\n
Security prevented Habeck from leaving the ferry.<\/p>\n
He proposed the farmers to send three representatives to the negotiations.<\/p>\n
But they refused and attempted to storm into the ferry.<\/p>\n
About 30 police officers arrived at the scene.<\/p>\n
They used pepper spray against these farmers.<\/p>\n
The ferry hurried back to the aforesaid island with the vice-chancellor aboard.<\/p>\n
Only under cover of darkness did it return to the mainland again, and the farmers were no longer there.<\/p>\n
