Lewis, a towering jack o\u2019 lantern sold at Target stores nationwide for $180, has become a popular decoration amongst Halloween aficionados. The Halloween decoration has been sharing space with the typical cobwebs, traditional pumpkins, and ghoulish styrofoam headstones people love to erect on their front lawns.<\/p>\n
But it isn\u2019t Lewis\u2019 eight-foot-tall stature that\u2019s his main draw, it\u2019s his distinct sassiness and flair that has earned him so many devoted fans this Halloween. <\/p>\n
Lewis is programmed to say many phrases with a devil-may-care attitude, including: \u201cHello, hello, I\u2019m so happy you could carve out some time to come out tonight.\u201d Afterwards, he continues to add either \u201cHappy Halloween my little ghouls\u201d or \u201cTrick-or-treat, all you creepy crawlers.\u201d <\/p>\n
Introduced by Target\u2019s Halloween line, the Hyde & EEK! Boutique, Lewis has already sold out online and at most stores, a testament to his popularity. Fans of Lewis have posted TikToks of themselves pressing his step-activated button to hear one of his many catchphrases like: \u201cI\u2019m not a jack-o\u2019-lantern. My name is Lewis.\u201d<\/p>\n
One Lewis fan named, Ariana Osten, 24, told The New York Times that she felt that Lewis\u2019 voice was relatable. She told the outlet that her favourite Lewis quip came after pressing the button quite a few times: \u201cI fear nothing, night or day, except a strong breeze to make me sway.\u201d<\/p>\n
Target, while reportedly \u201cthrilled to see excitement from our guests,\u201d has yet to give Lewis a backstory. The lack of details and ambiguity has only increased Lewis\u2019 appeal, with many of Lewis\u2019 reviews overwhelmingly positive.<\/p>\n
Many have interpreted Lewis\u2019 sassy attitude as a nod to the LGBTQ+ community, including Hillary Mace, 31, who told the outlet that she loved \u201chis vibe\u201d and was considering putting a pride flag in his hand. She noted, \u201cAs a gay person myself, I feel like representation in Halloween d\u00e9cor is needed. I love his sass, I love his attitude. It isn\u2019t just the fact he says his name is Lewis. It\u2019s the way he says it. It\u2019s the laugh he gives at the end.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s not a big scary person, he\u2019s just kind of funny,\u201d she added. \u201cHe\u2019s very confident. He\u2019s got the \u2018it\u2019 factor.\u201d<\/p>\n
Viewers on TikTok seem to agree with Mace, continuing to post their funny encounters with the jack o\u2019lantern and going viral. As of October, the TikTok hashtag \u201c#MyNameIsLewis\u201d has received more than 18.5 million views. \u201cRunning into celebrities at Target,\u201d one user captioned their video, while another wrote, \u201cBig news: I met Lewis at Target this week.\u201d <\/p>\n
