Red Cross visits former Armenian leaders of Karabakh who are imprisoned in Azerbaijan

The representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) have visited the former Armenian leaders of Nagorno Karabakh, who are being held captive in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan.

“In December, the ICRC representatives visited again all the Armenian detainees notified by the Azerbaijani authorities,” Ilaha Huseynova, Head of the Public Relations Department of the ICRC office in Baku told APA.

The detainees were met in private and were given a possibility to exchange family news.

“According to its mandate, during such visits, the ICRC assesses the treatment of detainees and conditions of detention and helps to ensure that the detained individuals can restore or maintain contact with their families. As per the ICRC’s procedures, the observations and recommendations related to its visits are only shared with the detaining authorities,” the information states.

Among other Armenian prisoners, Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) former Minister of State Ruben Vardanyan, former presidents Arkadi Ghukasyan, Bako Sahakyan and Arayik Harutyunyan, former speaker of parliament Davit Ishkhanyan, former FM and presidential assistant David Babayan, former Defense Army commander Levon Mnatsakanyan, and, the former Defense Army deputy commander s Davit Manukyan are also held captive in Azerbaijan.
