European Union (EU) ambassadors have failed to agree on the adoption of the 20th package of sanctions against Russia at their last meeting, diplomatic sources said, Reuters reports.
Earlier, Bloomberg reported on the difficulties in reaching an agreement on new restrictive measures. According to its data, the disagreement arose over proposals to extend sanctions to foreign ports and banks as part of measures to tighten restrictions on Russian oil exports.
In particular, Italy and Hungary were against imposing restrictions on the Georgian port of Kulevi, while Greece and Malta expressed concern about possible sanctions on the Indonesian port of Tanjung Balai Karimun. In addition, Spain and Italy did not support the proposal to add one of the Cuban banks to the sanctions list.
