Speaker of the National Assembly (NA) of Armenia, Ruben Rubinyan, had a telephone conversation with Valentina Matvienko, Speaker of the Federation Council of the Russian Federal Assembly, the NA informs.
The interlocutors discussed the agenda of interparliamentary cooperation between Armenia and Russia, and emphasized the importance of the continuity of parliamentary dialogue and cooperation on matters of mutual interest.
A number of issues in the current phase of bilateral relations between Armenia and Russia were also touched upon. In this connection, Rubinyan noted that the unjustified restrictions on the export of Armenian goods to the Russian market are worrying and stressed the importance of resolving this matter within the framework of the legal and contractual framework between the two countries and the regulations of the Eurasian Economic Union.
The agenda of relations between Armenia and the European Union (EU) was also discussed. In this regard, Ruben Rubinyan noted that Russia’s expecting from Armenia to hold a referendum on EU membership may become practically possible only after Armenia submits an official membership application to the EU and enters the substantive phase of this process.
In addition, the interlocutors reaffirmed their willingness to continue an open dialogue with the aim of further developing interparliamentary cooperation and strengthening mutual understanding on the matters on the bilateral agenda.
